Population shifts as women outnumber men

By Matt White

The Australian population is changing all the time, and the latest figures show that it's now women who are outnumbering the men. In fact, the country's female population now stands at 12million, with another 96,300 men still needed to meet this milestone, reveals the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

As you'd probably expect, the ratio of men to women varies depending on the area of the country. In fact, it's not until the age of 28 that the number of males falls below that of females. Further down the line, there are only 32 men for every 100 women by the time the age of 100 is reached.

Making sure there are enough homes for everyone

While this sheds some interesting light on the Australian population, it also emphasises the need for St Kilda real estate and homes in other parts of the country.

The ABS noted that Australia has welcomed strong levels of net overseas migration, which means there's an even greater need for quality properties to enter the market. Victoria is one area where migration has been especially prominent, highlighting the need for more apartments for sale in St Kilda.

Geordan Murray, economist at the Housing Industry Association (HIA), stressed that there's a very good reason why people are choosing to call Victoria home.

"Variation in economic performance across geographic areas has a significant impact on the flow of migration, and vice versa," commented Mr Murray.

"The states posting better economic performance have people flocking to them, while the underperforming states and the mining states face challenges."

As the population continues to evolve, it's important that different parts of the country are able to cope with the increasing demand for homes and services. Make sure you get in touch with the Ray White Port Phillip team for help getting your feet onto the ladder.
